So you want to create comics? Join in with this series of family-friendly workshops and learn the secrets to create your own comics. The workshops will include tips and tricks to teach you successful drawing skills to visualise for your very own characters, comics and covers under the guidance of experienced comic creators.

The workshop series will be followed by a one day comic convention to showcase independent and industry professionals and their work, participatory workshops and practical drawing as well as competitions and prizes.

Workshop one - 4th September 2010
“The BASICS: an introduction to comics “

Learn about the language of comics and how to tell your stories through pictures.
Develop your drawing skills with the fundamentals of creating comics.
Discover how to bring your character ideas to life with expert drawing tips for successful comic creation.

Put your workshop experience into practice by designing a finished comic character by the end of this workshop which will feature in your first comic strip.

Workshop two - 11th September 2010
“The NEXT STEP: advanced comics workshop”

Learn about different kinds of comics, whether they be American style, British and European, web comics and mini comics.
Learn everything you need to know to start to make your own comics.

Also, advance your drawing skills to the next stage. How to convey action, emotion drama in your comics and a closer look at life drawing for comics.

During this workshop session, you will create your own mini-comic.

Workshop three - 18th September 2010
“The FUTURE: ”

Learn about the comic business, how to get into comics and other industries.
Learn advanced storytelling techniques and useful drawing techniques to develop your drawing skills even further. Including faces and expression, composition, perspective and the fundamentals of inking and colouring.

During this workshop we will also be designing a comic book cover and developing your own comic page.
